A-FRAME-1 is a modular frame-panel house with a characteristic A-shape. The total area of the project is 51.67 m2, the built-up area is 41.70 m2, the usable floor area is 45.57 m2. The building has an open terrace of 16.71 m2 and an attic level of 9.97 m2 with stairs.
This project was created for sites where the setting matters as much as the house itself. A forest edge, a slope, a lake shore, a mountain location or a quiet rural plot all suit A-FRAME-1, because the panoramic glazing can be directed towards the view. Its silhouette does not disappear into the site; it becomes the main architectural feature.
Who is A-FRAME-1 suitable for?
A-FRAME-1 should be considered for a family holiday, guest house, cottage, recreational plot or a small rental property in a location with a view. This is not a classic house with straight walls in every room. There is a different logic here: a high triangular volume, an expressive roof, a lot of light, an open terrace and an attic under the slopes.
The project is convenient when you want a compact house with character. Downstairs, the layout can include a studio-style relaxation area, a kitchen-living space and sleeping space, while the attic can work as a separate sleeping area. This format suits weekends, short holidays, mountain retreats and stays where the aim is to disconnect from the city properly.
The terrace here is not decorative. 16.71 m2 is already a full-fledged outdoor area, where you can put chairs, a small table, a sunbed or provide a hammock, as in the layout. This is especially important for an A-frame: a part of life naturally goes outside, and is not closed inside a triangular volume.
Layout and household logic
The first level of A-FRAME-1 has a built-up area of 41.70 m2. According to the plan, the main space works as a studio: an open kitchen-living area, a sleeping place, stairs to the attic and a bathroom. The dimensions of the house along the axes are 10,838 x 6,000 mm. It is compact enough for transport and installation, but not so small that it feels like a temporary shelter.
The attic with an area of 9.97 m2 is located above the bathroom and part of the first level. Its dimensions are 6,000 x 3,010 mm, the height of the walls according to the plan is 2,950 mm. This is not a full-fledged second floor in the classic sense, but it is the attic space that makes the house more interesting: a separate sleeping area appears, and the first floor does not need to be completely occupied by a bed.
Inside the A-frame, it’s always important to think about storage. Inclined roof planes create a beautiful silhouette, but they require precise furniture planning. Therefore, at the design stage, we separately look at where the kitchen will be, how the stairs will work, where to hide the engineering, whether we need a place for outerwear, firewood, equipment or suitcases after the trip.
Architecture, facade and materials
A-FRAME-1 has a triangular structure with a roof that forms the main silhouette of the house. The total height to the ridge is 5,600 mm, the height of the first floor to the attic floor is 2,600 mm, the width of the base is 6,000 mm. It is these proportions that give the feeling of a high, bright space, although the overall area remains moderate.
The project envisages two options for the colour scheme of the facade. One option works with dark blue profiled metal cladding, white frames, natural wood paneling and a triangular dormer window. Another – with dark brown or gray profiled metal cladding, timber horizontal cladding and large panoramic windows on the front facade.
Panoramic glazing is one of the main advantages of this project. It opens the view from the first level, visually increases the sense of space and makes the terrace a natural continuation of the interior. In the evening, this facade is especially expressive: warm light from inside highlights the timber cladding, while the triangular silhouette remains clear even after dark.
Our typical designs use a pine or spruce timber frame treated with fire and biological protection. Basalt wool or Icynene foam can be considered for insulation, while the exact composition of the walls, roof, floor, windows and interior finishes is fixed in the specification. An A-frame needs particular attention to the roof, because it forms the architecture, protects the structure and affects comfort inside.
Production, installation and foundation
A-FRAME-1 belongs to frame-panel solutions, therefore, the main elements are prepared at the factory, and already prepared structures are assembled on site. We have our own manufacturing facility in Lviv, Ukraine, so key decisions on framing, facade, insulation, windows and interior fit-out can be agreed before installation begins on site.
In the design materials, the house is shown on stilts, that is, on a columnar foundation made of concrete supports. This is logical for an A-frame, especially if the site has a slope, complex topography or the owner wants to minimize interference with the landscape. But the final type of foundation must be determined after analyzing the site: soil, height differences, access to equipment, drainage and future utilities.
Installation of frame-panel elements on a prepared site can take up to 2 weeks, but the full schedule depends on design, foundation, assembly, logistics, utility connections and finishes. For mountain or remote locations, transport access, unloading space and equipment access should be checked separately.
Specification and possible changes
A-FRAME-1 can be adapted for a country house, guest house, rental house, family holiday space or private retreat in nature. At the design stage, you can discuss facade colours, insulation, interior finishes, kitchen format, heating, ventilation, bathroom, lighting, terrace and a fireplace or stove area if needed.
You can use the calculator for building a house for a preliminary understanding of the configurations and the impact of various solutions on the budget. It does not replace a consultation, but it helps to see how the logic of the house changes depending on the type of construction, insulation, number of floors, roof and additional options.
If A-FRAME-1 is planned for commercial rental, you should immediately think about wear-resistant materials, simple cleaning, ventilation of the bathroom, a sufficient number of sockets, a place to store bed linen and safe operation of stairs. If it is a holiday cottage, the terrace, the view from the panoramic facade, heating in the off-season and the feeling of comfort inside will be more important.
Characteristics of the project
The cost of A-FRAME-1 depends on the configuration, foundation, delivery, utilities, finishes and additional options. To navigate the logic of the budget without the unconfirmed price of a specific project, you can review how much modular houses cost.

If you need a compact house for family holidays, but with a more traditional form, it is worth comparing A-FRAME-1 with Quiet. For a modern single-storey format with a large terrace, Modern is suitable; if you are interested in an even more expressive two-level architecture, look at Futuro. For a recreational area, it is also logical to consider a sauna or wood-fired hot tub as an addition to the house.
FAQ
How much does A-FRAME-1 cost?
The exact cost should be estimated after choosing the configuration. The budget is affected by the foundation, delivery, glazing, insulation, facade materials, engineering, terrace, interior finishes and additional solutions for the site. Without this, it is incorrect to name the amount.
Is A-FRAME-1 suitable for permanent residence?
The project can be adapted for regular or seasonal living, but the final answer depends on insulation, heating, ventilation, water supply, sewage and the client’s requirements for living. By default, A-FRAME-1 is most strongly revealed as a holiday home, cottage or recreational location.
Can A-FRAME-1 be placed on a slope?
Yes, the A-frame format is well suited for areas with a slope or a distinct relief, but this does not mean that the foundation can be chosen without an examination. It is necessary to check the soil, the height difference, drainage, equipment access and the place for installation.
What foundation is required for A-FRAME-1?
In the design materials, the house is shown on stilts, that is, on a columnar foundation. For a real object, the type of foundation is specified after the site is assessed. On a flat area and on a slope, solutions may differ.
Can the layout or terrace be changed?
Yes, planning and the terrace can be discussed at the design stage. In A-frame, it is important not to violate the logic of the design: inclined planes, stairs, attic, bathroom and panoramic facade are more strongly connected than in a regular rectangular house.
Is the attic comfortable for sleeping?
The attic with an area of 9.97 m2 is suitable for a sleeping place or a private recreation area. Due to the sloping geometry of the roof, you need to carefully select the furniture and the height of the passages, but it is this shape that creates the feeling of a separate, cozy level.
Will the house be warm in winter?
It depends on the configuration. In our designs, you can provide appropriate insulation, steam and waterproofing, high-quality windows, heating and ventilation. For an A-frame, it is especially important to correctly process the roof part, because it forms a significant area of the enclosing structure.
Can A-FRAME-1 be used for rental?
Yes, this is one of the logical scenarios for such a project. The expressive silhouette, terrace, panoramic glazing and mansard work well in a glamping, holiday base or private complex. For rent, you should provide stronger materials, simple operation, clear engineering and safe stairs.
